Chapter 16

I LOOKED AT THE clock. It read 3:28 a.m. I sighed and gazed out the window. The sun wasn’t even up yet. I keep waking up every hour, thinking about the look on Matthew’s face. I thought training and focusing on my homework would’ve gotten it out of my mind. No matter what I did I couldn’t get it out of my mind long enough to sleep. I wish I’d just pass out so I could get some rest. I pulled my legs up and gripped the blanket up to my eyes. All I could do was stare and suffer with insomnia.

Micro floated over to the window. He took in the beautiful night view. You could hardly see anything in this darkness. The moonlight gently reflected off his metal, making the symbols etched in become even clearer. They were strange, but it made him look so much more advanced than ever. It was hard to think that Micro was just a machine. He seemed so… Human.

“It’s wonderful.” Micro said in a blissful voice. “Even without the two suns during the day like back home, the sky is just as pretty. And at night, the moon gives off a different kind of night light than what we have Sar’ae but it’s beautiful. It’s a cold river.” His eye adjusted size as he took in the view.

“I’ve seen some light reflecting off the ship, but most went right through it.” I said in a sleep deprived tone.

“The Byfolian usually adapts to its surrounding. It was probably damaged when it crashed and couldn’t adjust to the moon. I hope it’s not too severe.” He sighed. The reverb in his voice made it echo around the silent room.

“That would explain it.” I blinked my eyes slowly and curled up more into a ball. “Peter walked right through it though while I bumped into it. How does that work?”

“It’s part of the camouflage. It ensures that no one beside a Sentaen can find the ship in case someone stumbled upon it.”

“Ghost mode. Cooooool.” I yawned and rolled to my side. “Sar’ae sounds wonderful too. You don’t have any pictures of it, do you?”

“Pictures? I have a camera feature, but I don’t really use it to take pictures often. There should be some in the Byfolian for you to look at.”

“Really?” My enthusiasm was hidden by my groggy voice. “Can we go and see them? Well, how do we get in?”

“You haven’t gone inside yet?” He turned around to me.

I shook my head into my pillow. “No. I could never figure out how. I found out how to kind of control the cloaking thing but that’s about it. I didn’t stay for long though. It freaked me out.”

“Hmm, yes. I can show you how to enter it. Was it in hibernation?”

Like a bear? Well Micro did say he was in hibernation before my powers activated.

“How would I know?” I sat up and streamed my fingers through my hair.

He laughed quietly. “Sorry. Was it shaped like a giant egg?”

I ignored the fact that he probably dumbed it down to the lowest level.
